Collection Exhibition "Vessels of Light: Exploring Forms of Expression through Glass"
コレクション展 光の「うつわ」
Glass is a material that can transmit, retain, refract, or reflect light. This is a unique feature that other craft materials like ceramics, textiles, wood, and bamboo do not possess. Contemporary artists, in dialogue with the unique properties of glass, are exploring various possibilities of expression.
Some artists incorporate the principles of optics concerning prisms and the spectrum of glass into their works, while others create artworks depicting natural landscapes illuminated by light, or integrate light into their forms, transforming them poetically into finalized pieces. Here, glass serves as a kind of device that amplifies light and the associated worldview. In each work, glass acts as an indispensable medium that captures and contains light within it, enabling a wide range of expressions that go beyond just a "container" shape, producing noteworthy works in the contemporary era.
This exhibition explores how contemporary artists interpret the relationship between light and glass in their works. We will delve into this through a carefully selected collection from our museum.
