The Kambara Festival is a traditional festival held in Niigata City, recognized as one of the three major fairs in Niigata. The festival centers around Kambara Shrine, surrounded by a stretch of stalls extending about a kilometer. In particular, the local specialty 'Poppo-yaki' stalls attract a lot of attention. At this festival, visitors can also enjoy nostalgic haunted houses and shooting galleries, fully immersing themselves in the festival's atmosphere. Additionally, the 'Goken-sen' ritual, with a history of over 800 years, is held to predict the rice harvest of the year.
The main attractions are the classic entertainment and special annual rituals held within the Kambara Shrine precincts. While enjoying local flavors at various stalls, one can fully experience the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese festival.
Must-see limited items include 'Goken-sen' and the beloved 'Poppo-yaki' by Niigata locals. It is recommended to observe traditional rituals at the shrine and spend the day enjoying local specialties.
