Seihō-ji Candle Noh
正法寺ろうそく能
The Seihō-ji Candle Noh is a heartwarming dedicatory Noh performance commemorating the exiled Kanze Motokiyo (Zeami) to Sado. The main hall of the historical Seihō-ji Temple is enveloped in the fantastical glow of candlelight where traditional Noh is presented. This allows the audience to experience the atmosphere of the past while enjoying the charm of Noh.
During the event, in addition to enjoying the Omotesenke-style tea ceremony 'Haisho no Tsuki' using deep seawater from Hatano Tada where Zeami arrived, there are also special lectures and a public exhibition of the prefecture-designated tangible cultural property, the "Shinji-men Beshimi" (Rain Prayer Mask), said to have been used by him. These are excellent opportunities to deepen knowledge and engage with the culture.
For tourists, it is recommended not to miss out on the exclusive Noh performances that cannot be experienced elsewhere. Enjoy the history and culture of Seihō-ji and experience the impressive traditional Japanese arts.
