Takaoka City Art Museum 'Everyone Was a Child Back Then - Time Travel! 120 Years of Art Education at Bakuro Elementary -'

高岡市美術館「あの頃みんな子どもだったータイムトラベル!博労小120年の図画教育ー」

Approximately 300 graduation commemorative paintings spanning about 150 years from the Meiji era to the Reiwa era at Takaoka City Hakurou Elementary School will be unveiled all at once!

Hakurou Elementary School is a traditional school in Takaoka City that opened in the 34th year of the Meiji era. Since its foundation, the school has preserved students' graduation commemorative works, totaling about 37,000 pieces including paintings, calligraphy, and essays. These works are displayed and made public in the "Hakurou Memorial Hall" within the school every New Year and Obon, and are cherished by the community. The collection of children's drawings over more than 120 years is rare nationwide and can be said to be a precious memory inheritance of art education history.

This exhibition, supervised by Associate Professor Masayuki Hachiya of the Hiroshima University Graduate School, will display approximately 300 graduation commemorative paintings from the Meiji to Reiwa era from Hakurou Elementary School. From the themes of these children's drawings, one can glimpse the lifestyles, local streetscapes, and trends of those times. Additionally, artists involved in Takaoka's art education will also be introduced as part of the collection exhibition.
