Oyama Dog Festival
大山犬祭り
One of the Three Great Festivals of Shonai. It celebrates the legend of a dog named Mekk-ken who exterminated badgers living in Suginoo Shrine, saving the town from hardship. Dog mikoshi, Yakko-furi, Daimyo procession, mikoshi, and floats parade through the town.
Place：Suginoo Shrine, Oyama District Main Street
Transportation：10 minutes walk from JR Uzen-Oyama Station to Omatsuri Hiroba. 10 minutes by car from the Yamagata Expressway Tsuruoka IC. 15 minutes by car from the Nihonkai-Tohoku Expressway Tsuruoka-nishi IC.
