The Nagoshi Oharae Ritual at Sumiyoshi Shrine, located in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City. Known as one of Hiroshima's three major festivals, it attracts about 20,000 spectators over two days. Highlights include passing through a giant 3-meter diameter ring of kaya grass, and the "Ningyo Nagashi" where dolls are sent down the Motogawa River as substitutes for oneself. Sumiyoshi Shrine uses rare water-soluble dolls, considering the environment. The limited edition goshuin (temple stamps) during the summer festival (2 days) are also highly popular each year. In addition, there are fireworks displays and food stalls, providing plenty of enjoyment.
