Sixteen Saotome selected from 13 areas on the island will ceremonially plant rice in a pristine outfit of white robes, red sashes, and hand and ankle guards. Additionally, a unique sumo wrestling event, 'Hitori Zumou', where one rikishi wrestles with the invisible spirit of rice, is performed. This Hitori Zumou is currently designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of Ehime Prefecture.
