The summer festival is held in conjunction with the "Haniu Gion Grand Festival" at Haniu Itone Shrine. Beginning with the opening ceremony, there are a variety of stage events and local traditional performances, such as the mikoshi (portable shrine procession), Netaro taiko drumming, Okinawan Eisa dance, and more. The raffle, separated into children’s and adults’ divisions, is also a great success. There are also bazaar-style stalls and markets, bringing lively crowds to the town. The Haniu Gion Grand Festival starts with the divine procession departing at 3:00 pm, followed by gagaku (ancient court music) performances and a mochi-throwing contest.
