Horan Enya
ホーランエンヤ
The portable shrine of Shiroyama Inari Shrine is sent from the moat through the Ohashi River and Nakaumi to Atakaya Shrine (Kumano Shrine) in Higashiizumo Town, Matsue City, and after seven days of prayer, it is welcomed back, with the festival of the ship, a procession of nearly 100 decorated ships surrounding the seated boat, being spectacular.
The ship procession used to go from behind Shiroyama through Horikawa to Ohashi River, but now, due to the installation of a sluice gate in the outer moat, the route to Ohashi River must be taken on land. The name 'Horan Enya' is said to have originated from the rhythm of the rowing song of the Kaidenma boat, or from the word 'Hoyareya'. Supported by public faith, Horan Enya, which has been passed down for 370 years, is one of the largest boat rituals in Japan. In October 2012, the Horan Enya Cultural Heritage Museum was opened to preserve the tradition of Horan Enya.
