Akabane Baka Matsuri
赤羽馬鹿祭り
About 500 years ago, the founder of Edo, Ota Dokan, built Inatsuke Castle on the hill at the west exit of Akabane, which is now within the grounds of Seisho-ji Temple, and it served as a key point for the northern defense of Edo. He was outstanding in both literary and martial arts, and particularly excelled in poetry and music, inviting a master from the distant capital of Kyoto to promote these arts locally. In commemoration of this history, the first "Akabane Baka Festival" was held on April 1, Showa 31. The name is derived from the fact that the event was held on April Fool's Day.
