Dragon Fire Descent

龍火下り
The Dragon Fire Descent takes place every year on the evening of June 12th. It is a ceremony of gratitude and appreciation towards the main deity of Rengein Tanjoji, 'Empress En Daibosatsu,' who transformed into a dragon god to save people. Guided by monks, many believers hold lanterns and walk the 4km path from Okunoin, located at the top of Mount Shodai, to the main temple at the foot of the mountain, resembling the graceful and solemn appearance of a dragon. Anyone can participate in the Dragon Fire Descent. Additionally, at the main temple, the Heisei Five-Story Pagoda is illuminated by a thousand lanterns throughout the temple grounds, creating a fantastic moment akin to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, offering a mesmerizing experience.
