This event began as a way to wish for the safe return of the mikoshi (portable shrine) and horse procession from the Hibarihara Festival grounds. Residents used lanterns and torches to light the way and show appreciation along the route. Fires (fireballs) lit on dike paths around the rice fields near the fireworks launch site create a fantastical scene. After this, 4,000 fireworks are launched amidst the lights.
