Date Masamune, the founder of the Sendai Domain, had a great love for Noh and influenced Noh history greatly. Since then, successive domain lords have valued Noh highly. The Date family of Tome has inherited the Okura style, devised by the successive lords, and it became the prototype for the current Tome Noh. "Tome Noh," with a history of over 230 years, is designated as a prefectural intangible folk cultural asset and has inherited unique art styles and rituals unseen elsewhere.
