Makae Kanko Dance

麻加江かんこ踊り
The "Makae Kanko Dance," a town-designated intangible folk cultural property, will be performed at the Keirinj Temple grounds. This event, held since the Edo period to commemorate the new spirits and ancestors, features young men wearing shaguma and waist girdles who dance to the rhythm of chants and conchs. The festival concludes with brave dances to the sound of kanko and a display of sophisticated bamboo dance by young girls adorned with flower hats. This is a festival known for its unique charm.
