Guzu Yaki Festival
ぐず焼まつり
Men wearing hachimaki headbands and white tabi socks carry a 7 to 8 meter tall “guzu” (a big gori), which has been finished by wrapping straw mats and rice straw around a bamboo frame.
Furthermore, they march bravely through the town to the accompaniment of drums and powerful shouting.
At night, an intense wild dance unfolds in front of Iburihashi Station.
Afterward, the guzu is returned to the grounds of Furuhashi Shrine, where it is burned by the young men, and as the flames begin to die down, a dance is performed to the “Furuhashi Bushi” melody.
