The festival at Hachiman Shrine on Manabe Island features a dynamic spectacle of three portable shrines racing vigorously through the island streets. Each portable shrine is carried by a group of eight bearers called 'koshimori' and escorted by one guard. Traditionally held for three days starting on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, it has in recent years been held during the Golden Week.
