Nabekanki Festival

鍋冠まつり
Considered one of the three peculiar festivals in Japan, eight girls aged with the counting system of eight, dress in hunting attire and wear paper-made pots on their heads, parading along with approximately 300 participants. There are several theories about its origin, including that the deity of Chikuma Shrine was the god of food, and offerings were made with crops and seafood as well as special pots as atonements from the local Mikuriya to the gods, believed to be the initial form of the Nabekanki Festival.
