Fusegi Event at the Lodging
下宿のふせぎ行事
The annual 'Fusegi' at the lodging, held on May 3rd at 1 PM, is a traditional event that has been passed down in Kiyose for generations. On this day, a large straw serpent about 20 meters long is hung between two large trees on Kannonzaka, leading to Entsu-ji Temple, to 'fusegi' or prevent harmful insects and diseases from entering the village. The 'Fusegi Event at the Lodging', designated as an intangible folk cultural property of Tokyo in March of the first year of Heisei, is now a very valuable piece of folk culture. It is carefully preserved by the members of the Kiyose Lodging Fusegi Preservation Society.
