In 1590, during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's siege of Odawara, the local warlord Ujikuni Hojo, stationed at Hachigata Castle, defended against Toyotomi's 50,000 troops with just 3,500 soldiers for over a month. This reenactment is what is known as the 'Yorii Hojo Festival.' On the day of the festival, numerous warrior bands appear. After parading through the city, they split into Hojo and Toyotomi forces and engage in a defensive battle at Arakawa. The scene is as impressive as a Sengoku period battle.
