Chiryu Festival (Interim Festival)
知立まつり(間祭り)
The Chiryu Festival, the shrine festival of Chiryu Shrine, alternates between the main festival and the interim festival every other year. This festival has a long history, dating back to the Edo period (1653 "Nakamachi Festival Account"). During the main festival, five floats from five towns, each 7 meters high and weighing 5 tons, parade magnificently, almost brushing the eaves of the houses, accompanied by music called Shinmai. Puppet Joruri plays "Float Bunraku" and "Karakuri" (Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Japan, UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage) performed on the floats during the main festival are traditional rich local arts handed down since the Edo period. Meanwhile, during the interim festival, smaller floats called "hanaguruma" are offered.
※2025 will be an "Interim Festival" year.
