Yabe's Rope Hanging
矢部の綱かけ
An annual custom held in the Yabe settlement on May 5th. It is a festival praying for a good harvest of rice and wheat and to keep evil spirits out of the village. Locals carry a huge rope through the settlement and hang it between two trees at the southern end of the settlement to make their prayers. A new rope is made the following year to replace the old one. This event is highly valued and carefully passed down to this day, including the Toya system and traditional methods.
