Once held under the cover of darkness, the event came to be known as the "Kurayami Festival". It begins with religious rites on April 30 and continues until May 6. The climax is the Mikoshi parade on the 5th. Eight Mikoshi are carried from the shrine to an o-tabisho. The Mikoshi depart at 18:00 on the 5th and return at 4:00 in the early morning of the 6th.
