Iris flowers are tightly packed into a rice bale-shaped mikoshi, carried by about 200 young people who parade through the hot spring town. At the climax of the festival, the mikoshi is dragged around Gosoyu, and when the bale wears out and exposes the irises inside, they are thrown into the bath of Gosoyu. On June 4th, the baths at the inns and public baths of Katayamazu Onsen and Yamanaka Onsen will also become iris baths.
