Okehazama Battlefield Festival

桶狭間古戦場まつり
We commemorate the Battle of Okehazama, which took place in Eiroku 3 (1560) between Oda Nobunaga's forces of about 3,000 and Imagawa Yoshimoto's forces of 25,000. There will be various events such as memorial ceremonies, warrior parades, reenactments of the battle, matchlock gun firing, Toyoake taiko drum performances, and mini historical lectures. On June 7th (Saturday), a grave ceremony (for related personnel only) will be held in front of the grave of Lord Imagawa Yoshimoto at the Okehazama Battlefield Historic Site, and a spiritual ceremony (for related personnel only) will be held in the main hall of Kōtoku-in temple. At the Okehazama Battlefield Historic Site, free guided tours will be offered by Toyoake Okehazama volunteer guides. On June 8th (Sunday) from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM At one of the venues, "Okehazama Battlefield Historic Site," there will be historical guides, picture storytelling, children's activities, and merchandise sales (including books about the Battle of Okehazama made by local volunteer guides). Another venue, "Kōtoku-in Parking Lot," will have a stage for performances, food and toy stalls, with the warrior troops parading through the venue and available for photos at any time (photo spots will also be set up). The sub-venue "Kutsukake Castle Park (Kutsukake Castle)" will feature drum performances, matchlock gun firing, staff performances, and castle seals for sale. There will be plans to throw bread and sweets from the ramparts within the venue, and nearby there will be places for horseback riding experiences and photography. The climax of the festival is the warrior parade and reenactment play. About 300 people, including Imagawa Yoshimoto, Oda Nobunaga, and Matsudaira Motoyasu, selected from an open call, will march to the front of Kōtoku-in temple's mountain gate at 2:30 PM and then move to the stage at the Kōtoku-in parking lot. The reenactment play "The Battle of Okehazama" will be performed. The Battle of Okehazama, which still holds many mysteries, is recreated under the supervision of a historical film production company. Every year, it is worth seeing how the Oda forces could defeat Imagawa's large army with a small number of soldiers from various angles. Additionally, as a related site of the three major battles of Aichi, "The Battle of Nagashino and Shitaragahara (Shinshiro City)" and "The Battle of Komaki and Nagakute (Nagakute City)" will also be exhibited, adding to the excitement of the venue. At this festival full of historical romance, Toyoake City's PR characters "Nobunaga-kun" and "Yoshimoto-kun" will also be waiting for you at the venue, so please come along.
