Ladder Lion Dance

はしご獅子舞
In the first year of Eisho (1504), the famous monk Koho visited Mount Kano to spread Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. It is said that the loggers who accompanied him expressed their nostalgia through the lion dance, which began from that time. The lion performs tenguruma, harawatari, shachihoko-dachi, and other moves on a large ladder about 10 meters high, in time with the music. It has been designated as an intangible folk cultural property of the prefecture. Location: Kanozan Shiratori Shrine
