風治八幡宮川渡り神幸祭
The Fuji Hachiman Shrine River Crossing Divine Procession Festival is counted among Fukuoka Prefecture's five major festivals and is registered as Fukuoka Prefecture's first designated intangible folk cultural property. This festival, a herald of early summer in the Chikuho area, boasts a history and tradition spanning over 470 years. It features two portable shrines and 11 decorative floats adorned with vibrant barens and banners. Accompanied by spirited shouts, they enter the Hikosan River one after another. The vigorous shaking of the floats back and forth by the men, known as 'gaburi,' highlights the festival's grandeur and luxurious splendor. The main attraction of the festival, the 'Competition Meeting,' sees the floats lined up in the river, creating an exciting spectacle that reaches a fever pitch.
