Kazusa-Junisha Festival

上総十二社祭り
This is a sacred event believed to have started around 1200 years ago, in 807. It's a grand ceremony where the deity Tamayorihimenomikoto and her family deities reunite once a year at the historically significant Tsugasaki beach. Led by a sacred horse, over a thousand men carry mikoshi that house the revered deities, and they run along Kujukurihama to gather at Tsugasaki beach. This spectacle is awe-inspiring and has been designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of Chiba Prefecture. The regular festival is held annually on September 13.
