Tochio, once a textile production area, has long been known for the craft of creating hand-stitched balls using leftover yarn from textiles. These balls, beyond being toys, carry a wish for children to grow up plump and healthy like the balls themselves and have been given as gifts from grandparents to grandchildren during festivals and celebrations.
