Aomori Nebuta Festival

青森ねぶた祭

Aomori's summer festival "Aomori Nebuta Matsuri", a representative festival of the Tohoku region, will be held again this year! Giant "Nebuta" (human figure lanterns) over 5 meters in height, themed around samurai and legends, parade through the city, offering a breathtaking spectacle. At night, they are illuminated, enveloping the area in a fantastic atmosphere.
The origin is thought to be a combination of Tanabata lantern floating and customs to ward off sleep demons. The dancers known as "Haneto" who jump along with the shout "Rassera, Rassera" are also a highlight of the festival.

On the final day, four large Nebuta floats, including the award-winning one, are placed on a platform boat and paraded through Aomori Port, with fireworks marking the finale of the Nebuta Festival. During this period, the entire city is enveloped in the festive atmosphere, so please come and visit Aomori.

■ Viewing Information
To ensure everyone can enjoy the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri safely, a tourist information center is available in front of Aomori Station.
