A traditional fire festival said to have continued since the Muromachi period, where fire and sakaki cleanse all impurities, and prayers are made for a bountiful harvest and health. Flickering torches dance in the dark night, and shakaki mikoshi are fiercely slammed onto the ground, swaying together. Be sure to visit this unique festival in Shinshu.
