During the Edo period, the children of officials at the Murakami domain challenged the town's children by flying kites, marking the beginning of the kite battle. The large hexagonal kites, about two and a half tatami mats in size, painted with vivid warrior images, spread like an aerial picture scroll in the early summer sky. The aerial fighting, cutting each other's kite strings, is full of power.
