As a branch temple of Honganji School of Jodo Shinshu, Niigata Betsuin was built in 1871. "Otorikoshi" is a memorial service held in honor of the founder of Jodo Shinshu, Shinran Shonin, on his death anniversary to celebrate his virtues and repay gratitude. At Niigata Betsuin, this service is held in advance, attracting many worshippers from inside and outside the Yoita area every year.
