Since 1970, the Koenji Awa Odori Festival in Tokyo is held annually on the last weekend of August, turning Koenji's streets into a stage illuminated by lanterns at night.

Dance groups called "ren" from all over the country come to perform, with more than 10,000 dancers and over 1 million spectators participating.

This Awa Odori Festival, which has been rooted in Koenji for 65 years, is one of Tokyo's largest summer street festivals.
