Nakayama Senmaida is a terraced rice field that stretches along the mountain slopes at an altitude of 150 to 250 meters, consisting of 800 rice fields of various sizes. Here, an event is held annually around Hange-sho (the 11th day after the summer solstice). In the twilight, participants carry torches called 'Hote' and descend along the ridges of the fields to exterminate pests and pray for a bountiful harvest. The slow descent of the line of torches down the terraced fields adds a touch of fantasy to this landscape reminiscent of Japan's original scenery.
