It is affectionately known as the Arakami Summer Festival. Since Takanabe frequently suffered fires, a shrine was originally placed at Gion to pray for the town's safety and protection from such disasters; it has since been moved to its current location in the lower town. The townspeople revere the deity as the god of fire and, with affection, call it Arakami-san. The summer festival is held grandly over two days.
