Castle Town Muramatsu Flag Raising Festival
城下町村松 のぼり旗祭り
The Muramatsu area is a historical town that flourished as the castle town of Muramatsu Castle during the Edo period, and its historical influence remains prominent to this day. It is in this charming shopping street that the "Nobori Flag Festival" is held annually.
During the Edo period, families of samurai lineage would fly 'Nobori' flags with warrior images to pray for the healthy growth of their children. Revived in Heisei 15 (2003), this custom marked the beginning of the festival. More than 60 warrior flags line the shopping street, each carrying its own significance and artistic design.
Additionally, on Sunday, June 1, from 10:00 to 15:00, there will be a pedestrian paradise in the vicinity with events including Yosakoi dance, live music stage performances, and a kitchen car flea market.
