A festival held both to prevent water-related accidents and to honor ayu fish. In the past, it was said that after this festival, it was permissible to play in the river. After the cormorant fishermen hold a memorial service for ayu at the Shinmei Shrine, lantern boats shaped like a three-storied pagoda, torii gate, and other motifs are floated on the river.
