Tataki Festival

たたき祭り
Sakakiyama Shrine is located almost in the center of Fukuoka, Nakatsugawa City. The annual grand festival is held on July 20th every year (currently on the fourth Sunday) in a grand manner. On the day of the festival, parishioners dressed in formal attire encircle the sacred object, the "golden gohei," with white cloth (silk fence) and make a procession around the shrine grounds. Afterwards, they walk while striking worshippers with sakaki branches, praying for good health and household safety, which is why the event is also known as the unique "Tataki Festival." You will also find your heart purified by the floats entering the shrine path from the village and the music played by the kagura troupe.
