Gionba is a traditional festival that started in Nakatsugawa about 100 years ago. It is said that because the Komaba Shrine in Nakatsugawa City was once called "Gion-sha", the festival came to be known as "Gionba". Children from each ward parade through the city with lanterns over two days. On the night of August 14, children from various districts gather together for the "Gionba Jamboree."
