The "Tsuchiyu Kokeshi Festival 2025" is being held again this year at Tsuyun Hot Springs, said to be one of the three major kokeshi origins!

Various events related to kokeshi will be held in and around Tsuchiyu Hot Springs Township and its main venue, the Tsuchiyu Hot Springs Tourist Exchange Center "Yuai Stage". On Friday, June 6, a preview festival "Night Hot Springs Bar" will also take place! ■ "Tsuchiyu Kokeshi" Introduction
Tsuchiyu Kokeshi is a traditional wooden doll originated from the hot spring area "Tsuchiyu Onsen" in Fukushima Prefecture. It is one of the 12 systems of kokeshi transmitted in the Tohoku region and has been cherished since the Edo period.
Characterized by its slender body and round head, the gentle impression is conveyed by lathe patterns mainly in red, green, and black. A black ring, known as "janome (snake's eye)", is drawn on the top of the head, which is another distinctive feature of Tsuchiyu Kokeshi.
Originally, it was made as a souvenir for people who visited the hot springs or as a toy for children, and now it attracts attention both domestically and internationally as a traditional local craft.
