【The Future of Earth and Biodiversity Week】 「“Our actions save our planet - Plastic and Resource Recycling Society” will be held in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), a leader in global environmental conservation. Focusing on “plastic pollution,” one of the global environmental problems, we will discuss solutions through resource recycling and nature restoration efforts. UNEP environmental message will be delivered to the world through the participation and dialogue by the youth generation who will lead the future, as well as entertainment elements such as a calligraphy performance, musical performance, and a waste art exhibition, expressing the spirit of global environmental conservation.」 (Global Environment Centre Foundation)

After obtaining a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Shizuoka, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua University, a research officer at the National Institute for Minamata Disease under the Ministry of the Environment, and an international negotiation and project official at the Waste Management and Recycling Department of the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan. In May 2015, he joined to UNEP as a Programme Officer in charge of waste management and has been working for integrated solid waste management within the context sustainable development to support to the UN Member States.

Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Memon is a Regional Coordinator for Chemicals and Pollution Action Subprogramme with the United Nations Environment Programme, Regional Office for the Asia and the Pacific. He is Pakistani national, and he is working with UNEP since 1 April 2005 in areas of circular economy, sustainable consumption and production, plastic pollution, air pollution, waste, and water. He got his PhD in Japan and a MSc in the UK. He published papers in international journals, participated in major global events, and delivered various training programmes.

He is active in a wide range of fields, appearing on variety shows and information programs and holding talk sessions on music, entertainment, and other topics with top runners from around the world.

Ms. Yuuna Okanishi is a calligrapher and artist who pursues the “beauty of curves” in the world of nature through her calligraphy and creative activities. She breathes life into letters and expresses her own sense of rhythm and inspiration. In recent years, she has been creating not only calligraphy but also brush drawings and paintings and has held solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. Her first publication, “The Beauty of Line” (Seigensha), was published in 2019.

With the concept of “marine debris × folk instruments”, this art group focuses on the borderline between waste and resources through a wide variety of marine trash instruments made mainly from marine trash. The quality of their instruments and ensembles, which are hard to believe were made from trash dumped into the ocean, have been well received not only in Japan but also overseas. Formed in 2020
