Alphonse Mucha Exhibition - The Flower of Art Nouveau -
アルフォンス・ミュシャ展-アール・ヌーヴォーの華-
The exhibition of Alfons Mucha (1860-1939), a leading painter of Art Nouveau which swept through Europe at the end of the 19th century, is now being held at the Ehime Prefectural Museum of Art!
Mucha moved to Paris in 1888. By a stroke of luck, he created the iconic theatrical poster "Gismonda" for the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt, which made him an instant darling of the era and allowed him to show his diverse talents as a graphic designer, illustrator, and painter.
This exhibition introduces the full allure of Mucha's works through about 500 pieces—some shown for the first time in Shikoku—including posters and decorative panels from his Paris years, as well as design books, magazines, postcards, product packaging, and materials related to his magnum opus, "The Slav Epic," created after returning to his homeland in Czech.
In addition, as a special feature in Ehime, there is a section introducing Hiromizu Sugiura (1876-1965), a graphic designer from Ehime who was deeply influenced by and devoted to Mucha. The venue also offers a wide range of enchanting merchandise to let visitors savor the afterglow of the exhibit.<\/p>
