Ise Grand Shrine Geku: Yukata-Clad Thousand-Person Visit
伊勢神宮外宮さんゆかたで千人お参り
In Ise, there was once a custom called “Hassaku Sangu,” held on August 1st (Hassaku), where people prayed for a bountiful harvest and good health. This tradition is carried on as an event where people wear yukata to visit the shrine and enjoy the uniquely Ise summer atmosphere.
Bamboo lights decorate the approach to Geku, and there are various events such as food stalls and dances at the square in front of Geku.
*From around 6:50 p.m., commemorative gifts (salt and fans) will be distributed in front of the Kaguraden to those who have finished their visit. Also, on August 1st, you can make shrine visits until 8:00 p.m. as a special provision.
