Ōhasama Andon Festival
大迫あんどんまつり
The 'Andon Festival,' a traditional Obon event in Ohasaka with a history of about 200 years, is said to have started to honor those who starved to death during the repeated great famines of the Tenmei and Tenpo eras in the Edo period. The floats feature warrior paintings, kabuki themes, and Buddhist paintings for ancestor memorials, with young people from each district playing a central role. Four floats parade through the town.
