Boasting a history and tradition of about 300 years, it is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. On December 1, 2016, it was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage under "Yama, Hoko, Yatai, Float Festivals in Japan." Every year from July 31 to August 4, the city of Hachinohe is enveloped in a unique and vibrant atmosphere, attracting more than one million visitors during the five days.
