YOKAI Immersive Experience Exhibition NAGOYA
動き出す妖怪展 NAGOYA 〜Imagination of Japan〜
This is the world's first immersive digital art museum where visitors can experience Japan’s proud yokai art—including "Hyakki Yagyo Emaki," "Hyakumonogatari," oni, tengu, kappa, and tsukumogami drawn by various artists from the Edo and Meiji periods—through cutting-edge visual technology and three-dimensional modeling.
Born from the rich imagination inspired by ancient Japanese myths and legends, Japan’s yokai have been loved by people around the world across eras. Their humorous appearances found in yokai artwork and caricatures are dynamically brought to life using state-of-the-art digital technologies such as 3DCG, projection mapping, and holographic screens, as well as recreated realistically through three-dimensional sculptures.
Furthermore, with the support of Japan’s first rare book museum—Nishio City Iwase Bunko—and Shodoshima Yokai Art Museum, the exhibition not only explains yokai culture, yokai art, caricatures, and yokai artwork, but also explores the culture and history of yokai as they connect to contemporary pop culture.
