The Aizu Tajima Gion Festival is preserved through the Otouya system, where currently nine Otouya groups support the main party for a year and are responsible for the festival events. By continuously preserving traditional folk customs, it was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the national government in 1981. Another highlight is the elegant, ancient Nanahokai procession held in the early morning of July 23rd (also known as the Bridal Procession).
