Sumiyoshi Festival Mikoshi Purification Ceremony
住吉祭 神輿洗神事
This is a Shinto ritual performed on August 1st during the Sumiyoshi Festival, prior to the portable shrine procession to Shukuin in Sakai City, to purify the mikoshi (portable shrine). The mikoshi is carried from Sumiyoshi Taisha to Sumiyoshi Park, which used to be the Sumiyoshi beach, and is purified with seawater.
