The annual festival of Chiba Shrine, where people offer prayers to "Myoken-sama," the deity of stars who governs human destiny. On both August 16th and 22nd, large portable shrines (mikoshi) form a procession with drums and parade through the city's central districts, which are part of the parish neighborhoods. The dynamic display of carrying the mikoshi high and the two-stage striking of the large taiko drums are impressive and brave. This festival is also called "Hitokoto Myoken" (One-word Myoken), and it is said that during the festival period, "if you make a wish with just one word, that wish will surely be granted."
