Young people dressed in yukata with flower hats and red sashes attach drums to their waists, parade around a straw doll on horseback, and march through various parts of the town to the unique "Mushi-okuri Uta" (Insect Sending Song), finally arriving at Suwa Shrine. The insect sending event used to be held throughout Japan, but few, like the event in Kanokobara, still retain their original form, making it rare and unusual even nationwide.
